ST. MARY, CAUSE OF OUR JOY
JUNIOR HIGH YOUTH MINISTRY PROGRAM
GRADES 7 and 8

WHO DOES THE PROGRAM MINISTER TO?

The Junior High Ministry Program is open to all seventh and eighth graders of the faith formation program at St. Mary, Cause of our Joy. There is no charge to join.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM PROVIDE?

The voluntary program gives junior high the opportunity to go and serve by being the hands and feet of Christ and actively witness their Christian faith. The youth also get the opportunity to meet other youth by attending team-building events with other junior youth throughout the Western Wayne and North West Wayne Vicariates.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU MEET?

We have junior high meetings twice a month from September – May. Meetings are held on Friday evenings from 7pm – 9 pm in the youth group room (room 105) in the parish center. Dates are subject to change depending on what other parish or school activities are planned at that time. Meeting dates are announced in advance.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT A JUNIOR HIGH MEETING?

At every meeting, we have an icebreaker, prayer, and snack. Every meeting as a different theme and topic. Meetings involve faith, fellowship, and fun!

WHAT TYPE OF COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENTS DO YOU OFFER?

We participate in a variety of community service events, which include the following:

  • Serving dinner monthly at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen on Warren & Connor in Detroit where the youth serve meals to many parents and young children in need.
  • Working at the Capuchin Services Center where they sort donated clothing and restock pantry shelves helping to create a dignified shopping experience for those in need like all of us expect when we go shopping for food and clothing.
  • Sponsor twice monthly Bingo Nights at Four Chaplains Nursing Home in Westland. The youth are bingo callers, they sit and help the residents play bingo, or pass out all of the bingo prizes to the residents. (Forms are required before participating.)
  • Working at Gleaners food bank (Detroit and/or Taylor) & Forgotten Harvest Food Bank (Oak Park).

WHAT TYPE OF TEAM BUILDING EVENTS DO YOU OFFER?

Some examples of events we have participated in include a Hayride, Corn maze, Barn dance at Three Cedars Farm, in Northville, CYO WIND Conference, Las Posadas, Cosmic Bowling, Movie Nights, Kids Against Hunger, & Detroit Zoo Scavenger Hunt.
